Cayo Levantado is a small island paradise in the bay of Samana, sometimes called "Bacardi Island" because in the 1970s this brand made a commercial on this small island. It is the only island in the Dominican Republic where a hotel has been built, the Bahia Principe Cayo Levantado, which is a reasonably sized 5-star all-inclusive resort with 268 rooms. The island can only be accessed by boat, one part is public and one part is reserved for hotel guests. Spend the day swimming, sunbathing, kayaking, paddle boarding or even snorkeling in the crystal clear waters of Cayo Levantado and then enjoy fresh fish or seafood caught the same day by the locals. This small island paradise is one of the places to absolutely see during a stay on the Samana peninsula. Be aware that there may be restrictions on tours when large cruise ships arrive on the island with their thousands of tourists.
